Being a Business Development Consultant for 3 years taught me something, that nothing beats the feeling when you succeed to close the deal. ? But of course, it’s not always an easy peasy journey, sometimes it really hard when it comes to dealing with a clients or leads who are weighing their options, and considering your product as a contender. And it’s my job to convince them our product is their best bet.? This is where persuasion comes in. Persuasion is a method of communication that aims to influence the attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors of others. In the context of sales, persuasion typically takes place when a sales rep is trying to convince a prospect that their product or service is the best solution for their problem.? There are 5 persuasion tactic that I believe will give you a benefits and will take you a step or maybe two step closer to your next deal if you mastered 1. Build personal connections It’s essentially a rule of basic human interaction — we are all willing to believe and engage on a deeper level with people we actually like. I learn that as a frontliner, I’m the main source of human connection representing my company. By building genuine connection with my clients/ leads and getting them to like you on a human level, you’re putting yourself in a better position to have a persuasive conversation. 2. Don’t rush the process. An effective persuasion should feel natural for the leads. They shouldn’t feel pressured or rushed to sign on the dotted line. That doesn’t mean you can’t implement a sense of urgency or be timely — in fact creating a slight sense of urgency (such as offering a special price for a limited time) can be an effective tactic. The important thing to remember is, you want to remain on the same page with your leads, be their friends or even better be a their partner. Take your time. 3. Provide social proof Let your past customers do the selling for you — knowing when to leverage social proof can be a powerful persuasion tactic. Sometimes it’s your leads may feel more likely to trust the testimonial or story from a previous customer who was looking for the same solution. If you’re facing resistance from a prospect who feels unsure if your product is the right fit, sharing a customer success story can be an effective approach. 4. Anticipate objectives To harness the power of persuasion, prepare for your sales conversations by brainstorming the possible objectives a leads may have to your offer, and prepare talking points to disqualify the objections.? 5. Reasons Why You Should Not Wait for an Apple to Fall on Your Head to be Creative and Innovative

When Archimedes first yelled out the word “eureka” after he found out that the water rose when he stepped into the wooden basket for his evening bath, the world changed immediately. Archimedes found out that the amount of water risen is equal to the amount of mass of the body part he submerged. That was when the term the law of buoyancy was coined and triggered innovations by generations after. Back then, the information, in which we already learned in 4th grade’s Physics class, was a great discovery. That discovery later inspired mankind to create objects that can freely discover the ocean, known as submarines. Comparing it to our usual daily lives, we might feel that getting that “eureka” moment like what Archimedes had is not as easy as it sounds. Things are changing constantly nowadays, innovations flow like flooded rivers and the limitations of what is considered as “novel inventions” are getting narrower. This framework of thinking to determine a “new thang” conceals our ability to think outside of the box, whereas it is widely demanded in a professional field as a requirement for being creative and innovative, especially in the ever-changing, fast-pace world. The jargon “thinking outside of the box” is an everyday vocabulary for us workers to hear and usually used by the top-level management to squeeze out every drop of ideas for a literal and figurative innovation from their employees. In a creative industry, for instance, that jargon is injected by the team leader to our blood and used as a switch button to force new and fresh ideas to come out of the team. Sometimes they are working, but oftentimes they just plainly suck—thrown away and free falling into the nothingness bin for being “too out there” or “not at all realistic”. “If the environment punishes mistakes, you will never be really tempted to go out of the box—you will remain in a safely known environment. So, if you want to stimulate an environment which is creative, you need to allow the existence of divergent information—in other words allow irrelevant information to come in…only in that case you will allow the environment prone to generation of ideas.” —Giovanni Corazza, a professor at the Alma Mater Studiorum at the University of Bologna, during his lecture at Tedx Roma, 2014 So, you may be wondering: how can an idea be considered as creative and realistic at the same time? Is there any formula to thinking outside the box? Should we sit under a tree for an apple to fall on our heads? According to an article written by Rafis Abazov, a professor at Al Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan, there are five ways to improve creative and innovative thinking, which goes as follows: Create the “three-ifs” questions There is no shortcut for innovation, but as the saying goes, “there are many ways to Rome.” In his article, Abazov gave an example of how Steve Jobs invented Apple products and how was that even an idea to begin with. Did he invent smartphones? Nope. Then, what did he do? What he did was that he asked the right hows-and-whys, found the missing link and helped fill the void. He answered the pain-points that he himself experienced—in other words he discovered an area to be improved and improved them. From that, Abazov finds a way to ask the right hows-and-whys as well. To his students in his class, Abazov often challenges their train of thoughts with three simple questions which are later known as the “three-ifs”. How can this correlate of being innovative and creative for us consultants in the creative industry? Well, we can certainly create our own “three-ifs” questions to brainstorm for ideas. For instance, if client asks for an out-of-the-box plan for a campaign using influencer, then you can start composing the “three-ifs” questions, like: What kind of content would I want to see if I were the target audience for this campaign? What would I do if I had an unlimited budget for this campaign? What are my opportunities and drawbacks if the campaign used my idea? Then, you can bring your team together and new ideas would come one after the other. Maybe one of the ideas that came out is to utilize more Micro influencers and less Macros and make their content connected to one another by mentioning other influencers name on the caption—sort of like a chain message. Or maybe even crazier. Then, after those crazy ideas are gathered, narrow them down and start cracking. Practice to dream bigger As a kid, we often dream about the impossible, like flying on a futuristic skateboard that shoots laser-beam with pet hamster sidekick named Bartholomew III on our shoulder; fighting an evil half-tarantula-half-eagle robot who wants to take over the world and annihilates humanity. If I pitched that idea to you now, I bet you would not even bat an eye and probably told me to “grow up”. Can we not dream anymore as an adult? Does our creativity fade out as our number goes up? Using Steve Jobs’ success as our example once again proves that dream can come true. What was once an imagination, a wishful thinking, can turn into reality if channeled through the right set of actions. In general, the plater may freely roam and explore over the game map which is an open world environment consisting wilderness, dungeons, cities, towns, villages, fortressed, caves, etc. While exploring the game, player may navigate the game world more quickly by riding horses, riding a cart from a city’s stable or by using the fast-travel system which allows the player to wrap to previously discovered locations. Even in term of exploring the game world, you will need a good managerial ability because either owning a horse or riding a cart require some in-game money. You can save your time by buying horse or pay to ride a cart, which means you will have more time to do quest but you will have less money to buy good armors or weapons. In Skyrim, players have the freedom to create and develop their character. At the beginning of the game, players create their character by selecting their sex and their race. Each of these races have unique abilities, for example orcs have the abilities to go berserk and immune to damage for a couple of seconds, humans have the ability to intimidate their enemies, Khajiit (cat like creatures) have the ability to see in the dark, and so on. The race that the player choose will affects the character build or the way the player plays, and also how the player manages to develop the characters itself. The player should choose carefully the race based on how they will play, you do not want to choose an orc if you want to specialized in magic. Over the course of the game, players improve their character’s skills which are numerical representations of their ability in certain areas. There are eighteen skills divided evenly among the three schools of combat, magic, and stealth. When players have trained skills enough to meet the required experience, their character levels up. Each time their character levels, the players may choose to select a skill-specific ability called a perk or store perk points for later use. In improving the character’s skills, player also challenged to use their managerial ability by knowing which perks should a player pick first, which perks should not be pick, which perks will give the character best improvement, and so on. Based on my experience, I once choose an orc because I want to have a strong and powerful so I should have go for the school of combat skills (heavy armor skills, heavy weapon skills, etc.), but instead I choose a pick pocketing skill because I think it would be neat to be able to steal good armors and swords, and it did not end well, my character build became unbalanced and I spent my perks point on skill that I did not need. That’s not a good managerial ability. Besides improving characters through skills, there are also three character’s main attributes that the player can improve, they are: health, magicka, and stamina. Health is depleted primarily when the player takes damage and the loss of all health results in death. Magicka is depleted by the use of spells, certain poisons and by being struck by lightning-based attacks. Stamina determines the player’s effectiveness in combat and is depleted by sprinting, holding breath while aiming with bow and being struck by frost-based attacks. These attributes also affect the way the player plays or the character build. For example, if you are focusing on schools of combat you might want to improve health so you can withstand incoming direct attacks as much as possible if you are focusing on schools of magic you might want to improve magicka so you can attack with magic as long as possible, if you are focusing on schools of stealth you might want to improve stamina so you can run or aim with your bow longer. If you try to build a character with school of combats experience, it is not wise improving magicka more than improving health. Can The ‘Quiet’ Be a Good Public Speaker?

I once watched TED Talk of Susan Cain titled ‘The Power of Introverts’. As the introvert herself, she does public speaking talking about the introversion as she also published a book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. And here are my favorite lines from her talk: “Introverts, you being you, you probably have the impulse to guard very carefully what’s inside your own suitcase. And that’s okay. But occasionally, I hope you will open up your suitcases for other people to see, because the world need you and it needs the things you carry. So, I wish you the best of all the possible journeys and the courage to speak softly.” – Susan Cain As she speaks, she uses ‘suitcase’ as the connecting line of her talk. Starting from how she tells us that she brings a suitcase full of books on summer camp when she was a child as she planned to spend her summer camp by reading all of them and end up to read none because the outdoor activities during the camp. She also tells us on her suitcase she brings books which belongs to her grandfather whom she got the introversion self from, and in the end of the talks she likens the suitcase as people’s mind. Therefore, on the quoted lines, she hopes everyone to open up their suitcases for other people to see in which means everyone including the introverts should speak up their minds and their ideas. So, how the quiet can be a good public speaker? First thing first, get out of the comfort zone. Not all of us is a fan for being in a spotlight, but in a business world we need to speak our ideas, input, or questions in purpose to make the project run smoothly. We don’t need to take step on the spotlight all the time, but occasionally as needed. Scared and uncomfortable it is, but once we go out, we will go up the ladder the version of ourselves. Next is, to be ourselves and focus on the ideas. The best speaker doesn’t mean to be always funny or hilarious, simply to be interesting by communicate valuable information for the audience. When speaking about the ideas, we need to stay focus on the importance of the message to the audience. This will keep us connected to our ideas and also to the audience. Third, stepping on the spotlight may challenge our nerves that what we have organized in mind can suddenly be fall apart. To overcome this, before we talk we can try to calm our mind by calming our body first. When we relax our body, our head will follow suit. Last but not least, practice makes perfect. Being the good one will not happen overnight, we need to practice. For some, it may even take years to be comfort on the nature. Some video games, especially RPG (role-playing game), were designed to force the player to think on how to get the best outcome for their game, this way it is not enough for the player to just rely on their reflects on mashing button but also on their ability in conceptual skill, interpersonal & communication skill, decision making skill, and diagnostic & analytical skill. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is one example of role-playing game that can improve managerial abilities through its gameplay. Although Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was released more than 20 years ago, it offers a gameplay that require good managerial abilities in order win or to get a good ending. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is a farm simulation game that tells a story about a young man that inherited a ramshackle farm in a small town. The game begins when mayor and other villagers decide that he would be allowed to stay as the rightful owner if he restored the farm to its original state within three years. Otherwise, he would have to leave. Sounds simple, right? But it is easier to said than done. Over the course of the game the player must build a thriving farm, and become a friend of the citizens of Mineral Town. Throughout the game the player must balance between attending to the farm and interacting with other characters to maintain friendships. There are also side quests that the player must complete in order to continue the story and other activities outside farming and socializing. In the beginning of the game, the player only has a small amount of money and the citizens of Mineral Town are just strangers. Will you just focus in building your farm from the beginning by earning a lot of money but sacrificing your time socializing, or will you waste your time befriending the citizens of Mineral Town and make them help you in building your farm? Will you focusing in selling crops, or just try to expand your business in selling dairy products? All of those questions just lead you to more question. Which method that will give you more advantages? Which method is the quickest to bring back your farm to its former glory? Which method is the easiest yet give you more good time? To make it clear on how a good managerial ability can help you in playing this game, let us see how you can “optimize” your game on in-game daily basis. Player will have 24 hour of in-game time (about 10 minutes of real time) a day to spent, the way the player spent his day will decide the outcome of the game in long term. So, in 10 minutes player has to choose between watering his crops, taking care of the livestock, clearing the field from weed and other junk, socializing with the citizens of Mineral town, trying to get a girlfriend, looking for event to acquire quest item, looking for quest by visiting point of interest inside the game, mining mineral to earn more money, going fishing, shopping, exploring the town, cutting down the trees for lumber, and so on. Yes, a lot to do for just ten minutes, so from the moment the player start a new day in the game, the player should have planned how they want to spent the day. If the player decides to taking care the crops and the livestock, socializing, mining, and flirt some girl to get a girlfriend, then the player will have to sacrifice his exploring time. Missing exploring time might cause the player to miss some event and failed to get quest item, which means the player just lost his change on that day to get something important. Or the player can try to spend his day socializing, flirt some girl, shopping, and exploring the town, which means the player will have to let go his time in taking care his farm and mining which means not earning money that day. Player with good managerial ability will now which to prioritize by assessing the situation inside the game. For example, on rainy day the player could focus on socializing, shopping, and exploring the town because no need to water the crops on rainy day and the livestock will be staying inside the barn so taking care of them will be easier. On weekend the player could focus on taking care of the crops and livestock, mining for minerals, and fishing since most shops and places are closed on weekend, so no need to explore the town. Those are just a few examples how to spend a day in the game properly, there are still many ways to optimize your gameplay. Even in building the farm, the player will be challenged on managing the farm properly and as optimized as possible. For example, choosing what crops to plant also need good conceptual and analytical skills, let’s say the player will be faced by several choices of crops: Corn which has high price to sell and can be harvested multiple times, but has long harvest time and quite expensive seed. Potato which has low price to sell and only can be harvested one time, but has short harvest time and quite cheap seed.
